Black Beauty Basics: Part One
Everyone that I have the pleasure of knowing knows that as a textbook Libra I am a woman of passions!!! One such passion is beauty!! The term beauty encompasses anything dealing with appearance and image!! Whether it is fashion, makeup, or skincare this is a forum for me to share everything I know, and I continue to learn along the way. Another one of my passions is being a woman; a BLACK woman!!! So my sisters if you marry my two passions, a desire to offer advice to my black sisters is birthed; thus born July 1, 2008, is Black Beauty Basics!!! I hope this helps one and all and if there is anything you need to know that I don’t cover shoot me an e-mail (renedoby@aol.com) and I will address it in future articles!!
With that being said – let the beauty basics commence!!!
“Black Doesn’t Crack!”-Iman
True indeed but the SUN does NOT discriminate!!!!! So my sisters, being that it is summer I see it fit to address the strict importance of using a sunscreen with an SPF product of 15 or higher… Why the confused look…I see you are unsure about what SPF is??? Sunscreen???? Well you have come to the right place, let me break it down for you!!!
Sunscreen according to Wikpedia is defined as a lotion or topical product that reflects or absorbs the suns ultraviolet rays thus protecting the skin. The Sun Protection Factor commonly known as the SPF is the degree of protection that your chosen sunscreen possesses. Specifically the higher the SPF the more protection your skin will be receiving.
So, you may be asking, what does this have to do with me??? Well, it goes like this. Everyone is in the sun at some point in time throughout the day. Even though a black woman’s skin is deeply pigmented that does not give it some magical resistance to the sun. For instance, years of incorrectly eradicating pimples can often leave scarring on the face that is collectively called hyper pigmentation. Theses scars become more intense and may take longer to heal and disappear if they are exposed to the sun. So, the ingredients in common sunscreens such as the natural antioxidants Vitamins A, C, E, and the ingredient Parasol 1789 will help deflect deadly UVA and UVB rays from the sun. Even if you do not have hyper pigmentation from past acne woes, the sun can also cause dark spots on a normally flawless complexion. Coming together isn’t it!! So the moral to this story is for an even, beautiful, healthy complexion sunscreen is our new best friend. Not just for the summer ladies but for the whole year!!!! The sun does not take vacations so why should we with our sunscreen??
*** For some reason if you are still not convinced with the sunscreen revolution, I have you covered….Most foundations these days have SPF in them . So make sure you moisturize your skin with a moisturizer and then select a foundation that contains SPF***
Where Can I GET a sunscreen???
